SEMAGLUTIDE
Semaglutide( known as Ozempic & Wegovy) is a once-weekly injection of GLP-1 agonist for weight loss due to a reduction in appetite, cravings, increased feelings of fullness and improved glucose metabolism. Semaglutide was initially shown to improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetics along with diet and exercise. Most recently, Semaglutide has been studied in non-diabetic patients with obesity and was found to reduce body weight by 15-20% or more in 50% of participants. Semaglutide works by mimicking the effects of the GLP-1 hormone which is naturally produced in the gut. Semaglutide binds to GLP-1 receptors in the brain helping regulate appetite and food intake, making it easier for the individual to adhere to a reduced calorie diet and achieve sustainable weight loss.Semaglutide also targets GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas leading to enhanced insulin secretion and improved blood sugar control. By activating GLP-1 receptors, Semaglutide initiates a cascade of beneficial physiological responses that contribute to its therapeutic effects on appetite, satiety, blood sugar regulation, body weight loss, and overall metabolic health.

TIRZEPATIDE
Tirzepatide (known as Mounjaro & Zepbound) administered as a weekly subcutaneous injection is effective in producing weight loss by a dual mechanism mimicking GLP1 & GIP hormones that are naturally secreted in the intestine after a meal. Terzepatide reduces appetite by slowing down the time it takes the stomach to empty causing decreased appetite. In addition to GLP-1 effects,Tirzepamide also targets another important hormone system:GIP- glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide that regulates glucose metabolism, as well as lipid metabolism and energy balance. Due to its dual action,Terzepatide offers a comprehensive approach to control appetite, reduce food intake and improve sensitivity to insulin. Terzepatide also acts in the brain cells harboring GLP-1 receptors to signal satiety. Tirzepatide may take longer to kick in but can cause weight loss equal to more than 20% of the total body weight.
