Do I need Botox?
Selfies, video calls, TikTok, and Instagram are boosting the popularity of Botox Treatment.
Is Botox treatment for everyone?.
Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is a popular non-surgical treatment used primarily to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by facial muscle movement such as cross feet lines, frown lines and forehead lines.
Botox treatments are effective for many other conditions besides improving dynamic wrinkles. Botox is used for treatment of migraines, excessive sweating, facial slimming, neck lifting, spastic muscle conditions such as blepharospasm, strabismus, cervical dystonia.
Botox is not suitable for everyone. Here are some factors to consider if Botox is the right treatment for you.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?
-Adults with dynamic wrinkles that appear when facial muscles contract and interfere with the overall aesthetics of the face can benefit from Botox.
-Botox can be used preventatively in younger patients 20 to 30 years of age, to delay the onset of wrinkles or
correct existing asymmetries.
-People in good physical health without any significant medical conditions
-People with a desire for non-surgical rejuvenation.
-People with realistic expectations; since Botox treatments will not radically change the face and the effects are temporary.
Who should avoid Botox
-Pregnant or breast-feeding women
-People with neuromuscular conditions
-Allergy to botulinum toxin products
-Active skin infection or inflammation
-People with a history of hypertrophic scarring, as well as tendency to severe allergic reactions.
Considerations before Botox treatment
-Botox is effective in treating dynamic wrinkles produced by movement and it may not work well on deep set static wrinkles that are visible even when the face is at rest
-Patients with significant skin laxity & volume loss will need combination therapies.
-If you are taking medication such as blood thinners, certain antibiotics and supplements you need to check with a physician prior to your treatment.
-Long-term adverse effects are unknown and caution must be exercised to prevent imbalance between the facial muscles with undesirable results.
Possible side effects of Botox
-Temporary bruising and swelling that usually resolves within days, feeling of pressure or headache,
-Drooping eyelids or eyebrows that wears off within a few weeks.
-Difficulty swallowing, or breathing Is extremely rare but potentially serious if the wrong dose or placement was used.
The increased demand in Botox treatment has resulted in many unlicensed practitioners doing cosmetic procedures in cosmetic clinics or spas. An increased complication rate has been recorded in med spas, compared to treatments performed by physicians as reported in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery.
Other injectable neuromodulators include Xeormin, Dysport, Jeuveau and Daxxify- which are all Botulinum toxin A neuromodulators. The difference between these preparations it’s the caring molecule for the active ingredient.
Conclusion
Botox treatment is generally a safe and highly rewarding treatment when done for the right indication with the right dosage & placement by a qualified medical provider that is knowledgeable of your medical condition, aesthetic goal and desire.
